ANNOUNCEMENTS••Edited
The House of Representatives voted in favor of the final amendments to the Future Pensions Act. The final law will be voted on Thursday, but in principle it is ready and there is sufficient support.
For example, the starting age for pension accrual will be lowered from 21 to 18. And for fixed-term workers, the six-month waiting period to accrue a pension will be abolished, so that they can participate in retirement provision even if they change jobs often.
The law will also stipulate that the number of employees who do not accrue a pension must be halved to 450,000 over five years. These changes are being proposed by the opposition parties PvdA and GroenLinks. They had made it a condition of their support for the law.
The opposition party SGP also supports the law. At the request of this party, a permanent dispute resolution body will be established to which people can turn if they do not agree with the transfer and management of their new pension by the pension fund.
Opponents SP, PVV, Denk, PvdD, JA21, FvD, Den Haan, BIJ1, BBB, Van Haga and Omtzigt tried to get the law repealed through a motion, but failed.
The Senate will begin discussing the law on January 17 next year. Since PvdA and GroenLinks also voted for it, there is almost certainly a majority in the senate.
The law could then go into effect on July 1, 2023. The funds have until 2027 to transfer their participants.
