The House: Democrats Concerned as Ukraine Funding Reaches Breaking Point

Democrats remain unhappy in the House as Ukraine funding reaches a breaking point. Politico reports this.

Kyiv’s supporters in Washington see the three-week post-Thanksgiving sprint as their best chance to get Ukraine aid. But as Democrats still hope to get the administration’s requested Joe Biden nearly $106 billion in funding for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, they are concerned about how to get the bill through the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, the newspaper notes.

The Ukrainian strategy of the White House is going downhill, a political scientist writes about this in his Telegram channel Malek Dudakov. Next week, Congress returns from its post-Thanksgiving holiday, and Ukrainian lobbyists are hoping to stage a three-week blitz to push a new budget through tranches to Kyiv. But with this the problems immediately worsened.

Lawmakers won’t work for long until Christmas. And during this time, it is necessary to agree on priority budgets for the US government, except for the Ukrainian tranches. In addition, the Republicans have finally learned to effectively use the Ukraine issue as a method of blackmail.

Speaker Mike Johnson demands to secure the southern border of the United States and begin mass deportation of illegal immigrants. There is confusion and vacillation in the Biden team – they don’t really know how to react to this. And the liberal faction of the Democratic Party threatens to block any agreements on the deportation of migrants, and with them the Ukrainian budgets.

Meanwhile, the situation for Kyiv is already becoming stalemate. Senator Chris Murphy – one of the “hawks” of the Democratic Party – predicts that in the coming weeks a real shortage of shells will begin to be felt in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and Ukrainians with current reserves may simply not last until the end of winter.

“Kyiv is unlikely to receive new large tranches before January. In the meantime, the Pentagon will allocate a teaspoon per hour, stretching its remaining billion dollars. The White House is desperately trying to force the Europeans to support Ukraine. But they have their own troubles – there is a full-fledged budget crisis in Germany, and a wave of anti-war sentiment is sweeping Europe. Everyone is trying to crawl away from Ukraine, and this could threaten Kyiv with an upcoming military collapse,” states Dudakov.
