The hottest announcements in the history of The Game Awards. This event is really worth waiting for

Video Game Awards and its successor, The Game Awards, we have a lot of interesting announcements every year, ranging from fascinating turkeys to great AAA hits.

On the occasion of the upcoming The Game Awards 2023, I have already prepared two materials about the history of the most prestigious award galas, often called the “Game Oscars”. Two weeks ago you could read about the winners of the Game of the Year award at the Video Game Awards and VGX, and last Saturday I wrote about the best games that were awarded during The Game Awards series, launched in 2014, which is invariably organized and hosted by Geoff Keighley.

Today, however, I would like to remind you that despite the many shortcomings that the above-mentioned journalist’s galas sometimes suffer from, The Game Awards is definitely worth watching. There are better years, there are also worse years, but practically every year around the first week of December we get at least one or two big announcements, and sometimes even more. Today I will present to you 20 new games and gameplay debuts that took place at The Game Awards in 2014-2022. I chose the 20 most interesting titles. Be sure to write in the comments what announcements you would like to see at The Game Awards 2023 next Thursday.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

We have known about The Legend of Zelda on Wii U for quite a few years, but it was only during The Game Awards 2016 that Nintendo decided to officially reveal the title of the upcoming production. It turned out that the latest installment of Link’s adventures was to be titled Breath of the Wild and would be a cross-generation game, i.e. it would debut simultaneously on Wii U and Nintendo Switch, which was supposed to hit the market in 4 months.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

The romance between Hideo Kojima and Geoff Keighley has been known to us for a long time. The Japanese creator has become very close friends with the American journalist, and whenever they can, they jointly announce new works and materials from Kojima Productions. The first such collaboration was The Phantom Pain, which turned out to be the fifth MGS, and in the following years we could see further impressive materials from the adventures of the world’s best agent.

Bloodborne

Sony revealed Bloodborne back in the 2014 holiday season, but we haven’t had the opportunity to see any serious gameplay footage from From Softwar’s upcoming work for a long time. The Game Awards 2014 came to the rescue here, during which a large and fascinating trailer was revealed with the intense action that awaited us on March 24, 2015. Whatever it is, Bloodborne is still great to this day.

Psychonauts 2

Tim Schafer appeared at The Game Awards and quite unexpectedly announced work on what is probably the most anticipated production of his career – Psychonauts 2! Initially, the project was financed thanks to a fundraiser on Fig.co and from the first trailer we had to wait quite a long time for any details. Fortunately, Double Fine Productions did not give up and gave us a worthy successor to the cult hit from 2005.

Mass Effect: Andromeda

The Mass Effect trilogy was one of the best the world has ever seen and definitely the best RPG trilogy of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 era. So a lot of people were waiting for Andromeda, and the reveal of the project at The Game Awards significantly increased the prestige of this event – after all, EA could have done it also at E3 or its EA Play event. However, Geoff Keighley negotiated the first teaser at home.

Death Stranding

We have Hideo Kojima and his brilliant mind again. After Konami turned him down and he was forced to leave the company, the Japanese founded his own studio and showed the world that as long as no one limits him, he can do such miracles that it’s crazy. Each subsequent Death Stranding trailer only heated up the atmosphere, and we heard about the game for the first time at The Game Awards.

Axe: Shadows Die Twice

Do you remember this enigmatic and terribly exciting teaser from From Software? But it was a time of speculation. Many believed that Tenchu would return, but even though we ultimately got something different, no one is disappointed, right? Sekiro is an absolutely brilliant production with a fantastic combat system, an epic story and a brilliant world creation.

Metro Exodus

The third one is today considered the best installment of the trilogy by the Ukrainian A4 Games, which of course coincides with the expectations we had for this production after two brilliant installments of the series from the seventh generation of consoles. Exodus aroused great excitement not only with its first trailer, but also, nomen omen, with its exodus to the Epic Games Store, which, by the way, was also announced at The Game Awards.

Witchfire

Adrian Chmielarz is probably the most famous Polish game creator and each of his productions is an absolute gem. After the very successful The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, the native The Astronauts entered The Game Awards 2017 and revealed Witchfire – Mr. Chmielarz’s return to the roots, but with a certain, quite large, note of inspiration from the game Bloodborne, which he once considered the best game he had ever played. played in life.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled

After the absolutely brilliant trilogy of Crash Bandicoot remasters, it’s time to refresh Naughty Dog’s next work, Crash Team Racing – the best kart racer in history (sorry, Mario, but it’s true). Activision decided to reveal the project on Geoff Keighley’s stage, because The Game Awards already had impressive viewing figures.

Mortal Kombat 11

In recent years, Geoff Keighley and Ed Boon often appear on stage together, thanks to which the successor to the great Mortal Kombat he has a lot of fresh ideas for developing his iconic brand.

Xbox Series X

The most important announcement in the history of The Game Awards? In my humble opinion, this is undoubtedly the case. This is a very unusual move for Microsoft to announce its new console at someone else’s event. However, as it turned out, Xbox Series

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II

Of course, Phil Spencer didn’t just bring a plastic box with him, but also the first epic announcement of the game. Ninja Theory, purchased by Microsoft, showed the second installment of the Hellblade brand, which was also the first of the revealed games running on the next-gen Epic Games engine. Unfortunately, after four years we still don’t have the opportunity to play Hellblade II, but perhaps in a few days Senua will enter the scene again and we will get the release date of a real system-seller for Xbox Series X|S.

The Wolf Among Us 2

The closure of the old Telltale Games buried fans’ hopes for a new installment of The Wolf Among Us, but to everyone’s surprise, the revived Telltale has just revealed work on The Wolf Among Us 2. The hype was great then, but today it has weakened a bit – the weak The Expanse raised a lot of doubts today as to the quality of the upcoming production.

The Callisto Protocol

New Dead Space? No, it’s The Callisto Protocol, from the authors of Isaac Clarke’s original trilogy of adventures. Back then, we didn’t know that EA was working on its own remake of the first Dead Space, so all fans of space horror games turned their eyes to the spiritual successor of the Visceral Games brand. It’s a pity that only double A is left from the AAAA game.

Perfect Dark

Microsoft needs epic adventures like nothing else, so the announcement of the return of Perfect Dark was the perfect opportunity to interest fans of FPS games and cult Rare classics in its new console. Today, unfortunately, we still don’t know much about the game itself, and The Initiative is disturbingly silent on this matter. But are we supposed to get fresh materials in a few days? May!

Alan Wake II

Remedy has several very strong brands in its portfolio, including, of course, Alan Wake, the second part of which was announced at The Game Awards. The dark and dense atmosphere, impressive visuals and, of course, the chill-inducing soundtrack made the hype for Alan Wake II grow at an alarming rate.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

The first Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine was a brilliant slasher and one of the best Wizards of the Coast games from the time of the first Dawn of War. Many lost hope, but those who faithfully believed in returning to the battlefield were very positively surprised. The brutal soldier did not allow himself to be killed, and this time probably no one will be able to threaten him. But are you sure?

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon

After over a dozen years of working on Souls and “souls-like” games, From Software decided to return to one of its biggest franchises from before the Dark Souls era, Armored Core. The experience gained in recent years and the significantly increased level of fame of the studio have meant that the series, which was once of no interest to almost anyone, has gained a pedestal, gaining millions of new fans.

Death Stranding 2 (DS2)

Finally, we have Death Stranding 2, or as Kojima’s new game is currently called, DS2. The Japanese master once again chose Geoff Keighley’s stage to reveal his next project, and as usual, no one can say he didn’t deliver. Sam’s second adventure will be absolutely epic!
