The second event at the Hôtel des Expositions (HDE) in Draguignan is open to the public. Until March 6, more than four hundred works are exhibited on the theme of “The table, a French art”.

“Gindulgence, etiquette and luxury. “ This is how Pierre Provoyeur and Chantal Meslin-Perrier define the HDE Var winter exhibition. The one they took more than three years to train. From museum to museum. From reserve to reserve. To find the most representative pieces of French art exported all over the world.

“In the 19th century, everyone dreamed of hosting French-style hospitality. Each table was nicer than the next.”, explains the co-curator.

Historical reconstructions

Four hundred and forty works intended to transport the visitor on a journey through time. In the course of which we observe the evolution of social codes. “Today, elaborate meals and decorated tables are invited to end-of-year celebrations and birthdays. Mainly in the family setting, emphasizes Pierre Provoyeur. At the time, major decisions were taken there, transactions were carried out, etc. Extraordinary and very luxurious events. “

Twenty-four museums have come together to lend their works, as well as numerous collectors. Thanks to them, four tables were reconstituted and set in the styles of the XVIIe, XVIIIe, XIXe and XXe centuries.

Parts are presented for the first time, others renovated at the request of the Department. An unprecedented exhibition destined to be exported internationally. “You will want to take care of your Christmas table after having looked around this rare pearl”, assures, with pride, Pierre Devoyeur.

Open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Full rate 5th, free for under 16s. Info. on hdevar.fr
