The hostage situation in Ubisoft Montreal may have been fabricated, according to local news media

Update 21:52: Two local news media, TVA Nouvelles and The Montreal Journal, now says that the hostage threat may have been fabricated. The police have so far not confirmed this, but say Twitter that they have not found any problems. VAT News also says that several employees have evacuated the building now.

Original article follows:

According to several media – including VAT News – there is a possible hostage situation going on in Ubisoft Montreal’s office space. Canadian media are on the scene, and the police report that they are in place and ask people to stay away at the moment.

In a deleted Tweet, Eric Pope who works with Hyper Scape has said that several of his team are on the roof of the building. Others report that they have been in contact with others in the building who have been hiding.

In 2017, Ubisoft Montreal had over 3,500 employees, but due to the Covid19 situation, many work from home. It is not known how many are in the building.

The case is under development.
