The man who took a hostage situation almost two years ago filmed his act with a bodycam. These images can be seen in the documentary ‘The Hostage in the Apple Store’. The documentary, made by Roos Gerritsen, will be broadcast on AT5 on February 22 at 8 p.m. and can also be streamed on Videoland.
AT5 was given hours of film of hostage taker Abdel A. This made it clear in detail how the hostage situation unfolded. You can already see a few fragments in a video released today.
The images are an important part of the hour and a half documentary, in which various parties involved have their say.
Abdel A. walked into the Apple Store heavily armed on February 22, 2022. He took a man hostage, but there were also many people trapped and hidden in the building. He demanded 200 million in crypto. The hostage situation led to massive police deployment. A large area around Leidseplein was closed. Abdel A. ultimately did not survive the hostage situation, which lasted five hours. When he started running, an agent from the Special Interventions Service (DSI) managed to run over the hostage taker.
In addition to the bodycam footage, other special material has been incorporated into the documentary. More about that later.
