The establishments and reception centers for covid patients had to be reorganized and manpower was required. It is this work that the High Commissioner Dominique Sorain welcomes today: “I must salute the extraordinary organization that was set up here almost overnight to take care of the very large number of patients because there were a lot of patients, a very, very strong contamination. We have around twenty nursing staff (…) who came from France to come and help their colleagues who were exhausted by this saturation of the hospital’s reception capacity. ”
If the numbers of positive cases have clearly decreased in the Leeward Islands, the number of hospitalizations remains high at the Uturoa hospital. “Of course there is a small drop. We have certainly passed the peak of the epidemic. But there are risks of contamination and above all there are always serious cases ”, explains Dominique Sorain. “The hospital is always busy, all the beds are occupied and with serious cases. That means that we must also respect, and I say this to the people of the archipelago, the restrictions. ”

The municipality of Uturoa had to mobilize its teams to cope with the resurgence of cases as explained by the tavana Matahi Brotherson … “We organized ourselves also thanks to the will and dedication of the municipal employees. But I also thank the Raromatai tavana unit, even if there was a small problem with the closing of businesses. I explained that legally I couldn’t do it ”.
Of the two community centers, 1 is now free (without its residents). The teams are not against a little respite, but vigilance remains in order. The police are responsible for enforcing confinement …
