Who is the biggest threat to the world? The answer given by Western rulers and media is that Muslim extremists are also terrorists. But UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is calling on the global community to correct this perception. He says the biggest exponents of terrorism are far-right groups and white supremacists in the West. “It is clear that the greatest threat to the West today comes from the far right, neo-Nazis and white supremacy. Islamophobia and anti-Semitism have skyrocketed as a result of America’s “war on terror”. “We must take a firm stand in condemning all forms of neo-Nazism, racial supremacy and anti-Semitism,” the UN secretary-general said during an end-of-year press conference at US headquarters in New York.
This response from Antonio Guterres comes in the context of the arrest of some members of the far-right organization in Germany, accused of trying to overthrow the government. German authorities have arrested 54 right-wing extremists who aimed to overthrow the current government in Germany by armed means and replace it with a government headed by a member of the royal family. The coup attempt was reportedly led by Heinrich XIII, a member of the German royal family. Behind them is the terrorist organization “Reich Citizens” which rejects the constitution of Germany, which was formed after the Second World War. On January 6, 2021, Trump’s far-right supporters attacked the US parliament and terrorists planned to attack the German parliament and assassinate Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
The Citizens of the Reich are the German version of the Kwannan gang, the pillars of the attack on the American Parliament. The Kwanan group, born out of neo-Nazi ideology, sees former US President Donald Trump as the savior of the world. They have a strong hatred and hatred towards non-whites. As such, citizens of the Reich believe in white racism and harbor animosity and hatred towards black people and especially Muslims. America and European countries have often witnessed the horror of neo-fascism. On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, a black man, was crushed under the knee of a white police officer and died of suffocation, causing global protests.
Rayshard Brooks, another black man, was killed in a police shooting during protests against the death of George Floyd. White racism was also behind the shooting of 20 people at a Wal-Mart store in Texas, USA. Police have found posts in the Wal-Mart store attacker’s vehicle declaring support for the gunman who opened fire in Christchurch, New Zealand, and expressing hatred for immigrants. The 74-page manifesto prepared by Brenton Harrison, who entered mosques in New Zealand and shot and killed 50 people and fatally wounded nearly 50 others, also contains white racist extremism.
Not only neo-fascist terrorist organizations, but also the ruling leaders of Western countries are proponents of warerism and racism. The world has clearly recognized this with their discrimination in accepting refugees created by the Russia-Ukraine war. Students of African and Asian origin who fled to escape the bombings were rejected by Western countries without crossing the border. At the same time, white people were welcomed with open arms. There have even been reports of puppies of whites having priority over blacks on trains. Neo-fascism is also the source of hatred against Qatar in connection with the World Cup.
Racism and neo-Nazism are also gaining political power. In the US presidential election, pure racist Donald Trump won with the support of 60% of white Catholics and 81% of evangelical Christians. Research Fellow at New York Theological Seminary Prof. Reviewed by Marion Ronan.
It is time to correct the Western world’s perception that the term terror does not apply to whites. This was stated by the UN secretary general, Antonio Guterres. The time has come for the global community to change its view of Muslim terrorism as the main enemy and to unite against neo-Nazi extremism and white racism.
