The Hong Kong government forbids the screening of The Dark Knight, why?

Jakarta

There is expected to be an outdoor screening of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight movie in Hong Kong in the near future. But the plan failed after it was banned by the government.

According to Variety, the screening of the film, starring Christian Bale, is scheduled for October 27, but organizers have decided to refund ticket buyers this weekend after pressure from the government.

This is a bit of the opposite from a few years ago. The Dark Knight had time to shoot in Hong Kong, where at that time Bruce Wayne went there to chase a corrupt businessman named Lau (Chin Han).

In the film, he describes the depravity of the government and police system that Lau easily buys in order to submit to the criminal.

For some reason, they’ve only implemented the ban now, while The Dark Knight itself was released in 2008. Some media even felt that the Chinese government was more concerned about exposure to outside ideas through movies, particularly what it happened in Hong Kong.

In recent years, the Hong Kong company has begun to develop the mainland concept or the concept in which it chooses to part with China.

Indeed, in 2020 the Chinese government completely cut everything that led to it, from closing news agencies to arresting journalists who wrote about it.

The Dark Knight screening ban incident also raised significant concerns in the community. They fear that other Hollywood films will have a hard time getting past censorship and being screened there.

Previously, Thor: Love and Thunder, Eternals and Lightyear could not be shown there because they were accused of showing LGBTQ elements in the characters of the film. Furthermore, there are also those who say that the films have a bit of an anti-Chinese sentiment.

China is quite strict when it comes to LGBTQ issues, they forbid female men from appearing on television or in movies. Not only that, they also apply the rules for the production part of not using beauty filters for TV series and movies so that the actors still look masculine.

According to the Chinese media, a number of dramas have been reprimanded for making the actors look unrealistic. This is due to the excessive use of filters by the production team. For example, in the drama Sword Snow Stride, many people criticized the drama for using the green filter too much.

This made actor Zhang Ruo Yun’s face look indistinct. Also, the actor’s hair looks a bit green.

The Chinese drama Fall In Love in 2021 also received criticism from the public for using excessive beauty filters. According to the audience, the actors look too perfect even though the actors’ skin pores are not visible at all.
