The Hong Kong Film Industry Association sends a letter to its members describing the Golden Horse Awards as increasingly politicized, inviting members to think twice before attending

The 59th Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan will be held on November 19th. A letter sent to members by the Hong Kong Film Industry Association circulated on the internet today (13), mentioning that the Golden Horse Awards will be held soon and urging members to handle them with caution. The association pointed out that due to the recent escalating geopolitical tensions, cultural exchanges between the four locations across the Taiwan Strait have been severely affected, which inevitably cast a shadow over the Golden Horse Awards.

According to the association, the Golden Horse Awards have become increasingly politicized in recent years. “Many Taiwanese filmmakers or artists have repeatedly made inconsistent remarks with the art of film, confuse politics with film, and slander independent film art. The whole event was dragged into a controversial alley.”

At the end of the letter, members are reminded once again that if they intend to participate in the Golden Horse Awards, “you have to think twice, not to bring disaster to Chiyu and get involved in unnecessary disputes, which will lead to more money than prayers.”

According to the official website of the Hong Kong Film Industry Association, the association’s president is Hong Zuxing, the founder of Dillon International Film Company, the vice presidents include Tang Qingzhi, Zhang Kangda, Yang Zhenglong and Lan Kaishaling, and the directors include Xiang Huaqiang, Le Yiling, Lin Jianyue and others. .

In an interview with other media this year, Hong Zuxing talked about how China’s international status has increased since Hong Kong’s return. He also felt that there were many patriotic directors in his time and that the film and television industry had a strong cohesion. Everyone would be very proud to be Chinese.

Looking into the information, the Golden Horse Awards also emailed members in 2019, stating that since the State Film Administration suspended mainland films and staff from attending that year’s 56th Golden Horse Awards, the association therefore invited members to “consider their interests carefully before deciding whether to participate, so as not to cause unnecessary losses”.
