A different view is shown on one of the iconic streets in the City of London, England, Oxford Street. The street, which is known as the biggest shopping center in Europe, is full of homeless people.

Referring to the report BBC, Thursday (3/8/2023) they slept in the overhangs of the shops at night. There are around 60 homeless people sleeping on the sidewalks. The majority were men, but women, partners and children were also found.

Most of the homeless and homeless people are from Romania. Some of them have no jobs and are begging. Not a few are illegal status.

“It’s not an easy life on the streets,” said one homeless person named Fernando.

“Sometimes people throw drinks at us and say abusive things,” he added.

The number of homeless people on Oxford Street was conveyed by several travelers on the Trip Advisor travel site. In a comment column, someone mentioned meeting a homeless person and it was very upsetting.

“Whether these people are real homeless or not is another thing, but the ones I’ve met are overwhelming,” he wrote.

“Some of them just want money and are very rude,” he added.

In June 2023, the Greater London Authority (GLA) reported that the number of people sleeping on the streets jumped 21% compared to last year. Now the number has reached 10,053 people. The Guardian reported the surge was likely a reflection of the rising cost of living and reductions due to Covid-19.
