The Hockey Pioneers divide

For a second weekend in a row, the Cégep de Rimouski Hockey Pioneers divided the honors of their two games.

Friday evening, they defeated Filons, in Thetford, by a score of 3-1. With her 33 saves, Dolorès Després had another excellent outing in front of her net. Élyse Bussières, in first, Océla Cotton-Blanchette and Marie-Jane Martineau, in third, scored in the victory.

“A great team effort and defensive sacrifices allowed us to come out with the victory. We knew how to be opportunistic in the third period,” mentions Jean-François Duchesne.

Saturday afternoon in Trois-Rivières, the Diablos defeated the Pionnières 4-1. The visitors’ goalkeeper, Ariel Fortin, did not steal her third star being bombarded with 50 shots compared to 16 for her opposite side. Danika Giroux has the goal for Rimouskoises.

“A lack of collective effort and concentration hurt us. I also remember the two other good outings from our goalkeepers at the end of the week. Now, two weeks of rest before the final stretch which will lead us to the holidays,” continues the head coach.

“We worked hard in the first two periods, but not always well. But the third was completely to our advantage. We made two small modifications after the second and the guys got on board with it,” explains Sébastien Dénommé.

In the absence of a few long-term injuries, he likes to see how his team responds. “Some guys make the difference, like Gabriel-Alexis Bisson, Alexandre Pouliot, Jean-Christophe Lebrun. They take matters into their own hands. Jordan Pilot also back. They play very big minutes. »

The Pioneers (8-3-0) are second in the standings, four points behind Victoriaville (10-2-0) who played one more match. They will play their next match next Sunday in Sainte-Foy.
