The hockey genius is coming. But it’s a different Shepherd than years ago

Caution is in order, even if David Pastrňák arrives.

The Czech hockey idol with the pseudonym “Pasta” has not been in its top form lately. He worked with injuries, played under injections. Even his Boston Bruins are not the team they were three years ago when they made it to the Stanley Cup final.

But now Pastrňák is coming – and is expected to join the team as his most capable striker. “After the end of Boston in the NHL playoffs, David was very interested in coming to the World Cup and although he was injured at the end of the basic part, his exit health tests went smoothly. He got the green light from Bruins, “said Petr Nedvěd, general manager of the Czech national team.

Pastrňák should train with the team on Wednesday and may play against Latvia on Thursday.

David Pastrňák with his Swedish girlfriend Rebecca.

The early 26-year-old Czech forward Boston Bruins has already played over 500 NHL games and has surpassed the magic limit of 500 points. His biggest personal achievement is winning the Maurice Richard Trophy (in 2020) for the player who scored the most goals in the NHL. He is also a five-time winner of the Golden Hockey poll and has twice played in the NHL All-Star (2019 and 2020).

In 2016, “Pasta” signed a six-year contract with Boston for 900 million crowns and everything looked absolutely great. It can be said that until 2020 it was still rising.

He should be slowly at the peak of his career today, but he has been through a rather turbulent period lately. He suffered an unspecified injury in early April and did not return until less than a month later. Coach Bruce Cassidy put him back in an elite formation between old partners Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. David Pastrňák started collecting points again. But a little quick end came. The Bruins were eliminated after a seven-match line-up in the first round of the playoffs with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Of course good for the Czech team in Finland.

The Czech hockey star also experienced a very difficult period in his personal life. Last summer, his son Viggo, whom he had with the American Swede Rebecca Rohlson, died a few days after his birth.

Until recently, Pastrňák enjoyed a happy life, at first a bachelor who, always always perfectly dressed, liked to drive in luxury fast cars such as the Porsche Panamera or Lamborghini Urus. In July 2018, he met Rebecca, a year older, and eventually began living together in Boston.

Rebecca graduated from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. She is an influencer, she was involved in event planning and for a time she also worked as a hostess. According to some portals, her father is a businessman and her mother is a housewife.

The boy from Havířov: at the age of 15

David Pastrňák himself comes from Havířov, where as a boy he lived with his mother Marcela Ziembová and older brother Jakub.

It can be said that one of those children who gave the sport everything from the beginning and was a little lucky. He took his first hockey steps in September 1999 at the age of three at the Havířov winter stadium, where his mother brought him. It is said that he started playing in girls’ figure skates. And he was improving fast. When he was six, he started playing 1st and then 3rd grade matches as a preschooler. At the age of 15, he was already fighting for the A team of the Havířov club.

It wasn’t long before the Czech talent left Havířov abroad. In 2012, he went to Sweden, where he played the league for Södertälje near Stockholm for two seasons. The sport engulfed him so much that he failed to finish high school. Marcela’s mother pushed him, she wanted him to at least graduate, but it couldn’t be put together. So she finally backed off.

Then came the memorable June 27, 2014. A moment that completely changed his career and life. He was selected as the 25th overall in the first round of the NHL draft by the Boston Bruins. In a few days, he was concluding a three-year rookie contract.

It took him two seasons to fully assert himself in the permanent Boston team. At the end of the 2016/2017 season, he could already boast 34 goals, 70 points and 72 matches played in the basic part. He also intervened in the playoffs, where he played 6 matches and collected 4 points. You already know the rest. He continued to improve until he won the aforementioned Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy in 2020 and is now one of Boston’s mainstays.

He was successful in the NHL, but he was not so lucky with the national team. Since 2016, he has participated in three Ice Hockey World Championships and one World Cup in Canada. However, the national team did not reach better than 5th place. Thousands of fans and many experts hope that right now everything can turn for the better.

For Pastrňák and Czech hockey.
