On Friday, rain washed away several tents, but in fact only cleared the air. So the main burst of tones and elemental energy presented by the winners of Eurovision could begin. Måneskin, translated as Moonlight, played both their own songs and covers. I Wanna Be Your Slave, which the Italians recently sang with the punk icon Iggy Pop, was also heard twice. They also referred to his collaboration with his version of his song I Wanna Be Your Dog.

But Måneskin was not the only star performer at the festival. Artists from the Czech Republic and other European countries, including the Swedes The Hives, arranged for thirty performances. Overseas were even represented. A symbolic return to live concerts was the music of the Texas duo Missio, which performed in Hradec Králové at the last Rock for People in 2019. Last year, on March 10, it came to play for the sold-out Prague Rock Café. An hour before the start, however, a ban on holding cultural events for more than a hundred people was issued. It was the first band that canceled our concert due to the covid.

According to festival director Michal Thomes, this year’s event met expectations despite complications. The Festival Park complex was filled with 7,000 spectators, and the gates for other visitors closed on Friday.

This year, the full-fledged Rock for People was to take place in June. Like last year, however, it was canceled due to covid’s restrictions and moved to June 16-18, 2022. One of the main stars will be five-time Grammy winners and members of the rock’n’roll hall of fame, the American band Green Day. He will also present a novelty in Hradec, the album Fathers of All Motherfuckers.
