Al-Marsad newspaper: Bahraini Sheikha Mai Al Khalifa revealed the history of the Al Khalifa family in Bahrain and the story of its founding, during her interview on the Mikhayal program with the journalist Abdullah Al Bandar.
Sheikha Mai said: The beginning of their presence was that they fled from Al-Hadar in the Arabian Peninsula to Al-Zubarah and established the large fleet that was known as the second after the Oman fleet, which was known for its size and hugeness.
She continued: The first person to rule Al Zubarah was Muhammad bin Khalifa, and he is known in British records as being wise and knowledgeable and having a distinguished political presence.
She added that: His son, Khalifa, died, and Ahmed, who conquered Bahrain and populated it, and rule extended to his sons Salman and Abdullah. Then the rule passed to his grandnephew, Muhammad bin Khalifa bin Salman, my great-grandfather. Then the people of Bahrain chose Sheikh Isa bin Ali, during whose reign Bahrain stabilized, and the chain of rule went to Sheikh Hamad bin Isa. To Sheikh Salman bin Hamad, then Issa bin Salman, during whose reign Bahrain gained independence.
