The History of SGD: From Glory to Defeat and Back Again

After this black Monday in Meppen, it’s not easy to write an opening today. Actually I wanted to start with the following dates: 06/17/1962 – 06/14/1964 – 05/11/1969 – 05/17/1991 – 06/17/1991 – 06/09/2002 – 06/05/2004 – 05/24/2011 – 05/14/2016 – 05/22/2021 – These days are ours glorious SGD ascended and 05/27/2023 should line up here.

But the last game made me look for other dates.
05/24/2022 – 05/11/2014 – 05/10/2000 – 05/10/1980 – 03/20/1985 – 03/19/1986. It is the dates of particularly bitter defeats that we have had to experience in our 70-year club history.
In 2022 we were relegated against FC Kaiserslautern, in 2014 Bielefeld sent us straight into league 3 with a 2:3 home defeat (a draw would have been enough for relegation). In 2000 we lost 0:1 in Babelsberg and the fall in league 4 was almost perfect. The race to catch up (6 wins) that had started 9 games earlier had come too late. In 1980 a draw in Berlin would have been enough to win the championship – 15 minutes before the end of the game we were denied a clear penalty and in return Norbert Trieloff sealed our defeat, the title stayed in the capital. In 1985, after a 3-0 home win in the first leg, we thought we were in the EC semifinals and lost unbelievably 5-0 in Vienna.
And the youngest Dynamo fans have probably heard of that game in March 1986 in the Grotenburg. Won the first leg in Dresden 2:0 and led 3:1 at half-time in Uerdingen. It was 5:1 in the overall standings 45 minutes before the end of the season, and the EC semi-finals were booked. The end is well known – the second half ended 0:6, that 3:7 is probably the most painful defeat in the club’s history. Experienced players were on our team with Dixie Dörner, Reinhard Häfner, Champi Pilz, Atze Döschner and Andreas Trautmann. Even if comparisons always lag.
On Monday I felt transported back to 1986. Our golden feet had everything under control up to half-time and Meppen didn’t really take place. “Key moments” turned the game – Paul Will’s injury and the yellow/red for Kyu-Hyun Park. Suddenly there was no access to the game, hardly a duel was won, the mood in the stands began to boil and 12 minutes probably destroyed the dream of promotion that was almost certain. It was similar in Uerdingen. The key moment was the serious injury of our goalkeeper Bernd Jakubowski, who had to be replaced by the inexperienced Jens Ramme at half-time. From a fan’s point of view, there was no explanation for the break-in in front of the television, but our defense fell apart and was literally overrun. At that time I didn’t really know how I got back to the dorm and the next morning was horrible, and not only because of the residual alcohol. 37 years later it doesn’t look any different – even though I’ve become a little more relaxed as I’ve gotten older.

Why am I picking out this game in particular? There are things in life and of course in football that you can’t really explain – they just happen. Sometimes it works against you and sometimes for you (such as the 4:3 in the DFB Cup against Leverkusen in 2011).
It’s no use beating the team and the coach now because of the game in Meppen. They know themselves that they screwed up and you can look for explanations on many levels and put a whole puzzle together, but we’ll never really find out what really happened in those 12 minutes. Our golden feet are no less emotionally devastated here than we fans are. Seeing a goal that was not considered possible four months ago suddenly burn up like this has to be processed first.

But the historical data also show one thing impressively. Our sports community has stood up again and again. Championships, promotions and the EC semi-finals followed. That and that alone is what we have to keep in mind. Because whoever fights can lose. If you don’t fight, you’ve already lost.” (Bert Brecht). We as a sports community will fight.

Even if our starting position is anything but favorable today, our gold feet will give everything again today to achieve the goal that is almost impossible to achieve. Who knows, maybe “Uerdingen” will take place today in Saarbrücken, Wiesbaden or Osnabrück. Then we don’t want to have to blame ourselves for not having made our contribution.

FOR THIS REASON –

IT DEPENDS ON US AND THE TEAM !!!

Let’s unconditionally support our golden feet.

Let’s go and give EVERYTHING, let’s go DRESDEN FIGHT and WIN!!

give me one

Deeeee….
