The history of OL against English clubs before facing West Ham in the Europa League

2009: Gonalons, joker savior
In the group stage of the Champions League, OL challenged Liverpool at the end of the cycle after two C1 finals in three years (victory in 2005 then defeat in 2007, each time against AC Milan). But the English club is still a taulier. The Lyonnais achieved the feat by winning 2-1 at Anfield, thanks to a goal from young Maxime Gonalons, who came on in place of captain Cris, and a goal from César Delgado in added time. On the return, the Lyonnais snatched a 1-1 draw at Gerland, thanks to another late goal from Lisandro Lopez. This result propels OL into the round of 16, and virtually eliminates Liverpool, transferred to the Europa League, of which it had reached the last four.
