The History of Louis-Urbain Aubert, Marquis de Tourny: A Conference in Vernon

The Vernonnais Study Circle (CEV) returns with a new conference on Thursday October 19, 2023 in Vernon (Your).

Member of the CEV, Christian Roy, speaker for the occasion, will look at the history of Louis-Urbain Aubert, third Marquis of Tournyfrom 1686 to 1787.

“Four marquises succeeded one another in Tourny from 1686 to 1787. Louis-Urbain Aubert is the third of them. He inherited the title in 1726 on the death of his father, who died in Vernon,” reveals the CEV.

And local character which is ultimately not that much… This is what Christian Roy will reveal to you.

Lawyer by training

A resident of Hennezis for around ten years and a member of the Friends of the Church of Tourny association, Christian Roy was naturally interested in the history of the Marquis de Tourny.

I was led to look for historical elements about Tourny and it made me want to look a little more closely at the marquis.

Thanks to his research, carried out over two years, he came across a biography of the said nobleman published in 1920. The latter participated in the improvement of the castle and was one of the notable donors. Despite its title, Louis-Urbain Aubert n’a not really lived in Tourny.

In his conference, Christian Roy will return in particular to the career of a lawyer in Paris. A career that he pursued in Limoges, then in Bordeaux, being appointed intendant of the generality.

“The conference of Christian Roy, member of the CEVwill be abundantly illustrated by the numerous achievements carried out under the leadership of Louis-Urbain Aubert in terms of town planning, through the cities where he worked, and which still preserve his memory,” underlines the CEV.
