The History of Earth’s Oceans and Continents: From Pangea to Today

METROASPIRASIKU – Most of Indonesia’s territory is territorial waters, therefore Indonesia is called a maritime country.

Not only Indonesia, Earth is actually a planet that has a liquid water surface, because the appearance of the Seabed Ocean is not widely known.

Mars actually also has an ice surface but it is not liquid in the ocean floor, as is generally known in natural science that what exists on Mars is an ice cap.

The Seabed Ocean on Earth has a volume of 1,335,000,000 cubic kilometers which includes around 96.5% of all the water on Earth.

This is also known to cover more than 70% of the Earth’s surface. So we need to know every part of the relief and bottom as well as the movement of an ocean.

The first ocean appeared millions of years after the birth of planet Earth. In the beginning, the earth was filled with volcanoes that spewed lava and water vapor.

Little by little, the earth’s temperature drops and the water vapor transforms into water which is then poured out in the form of torrential rain. The first ocean consisted of a melting of substances and gases that were very acidic and terrible.

After the earth was formed, the earth’s crust broke apart. Then, vast plains formed and began to move. 500 million years ago, most of the continents were in the Southern Hemisphere, along the equator.

400 million years ago, the continents moved towards the south pole. Approximately 350-290 million years ago, most of the continents gathered to form one supercontinent, namely the continent of Pangea, which was surrounded by an ocean.

250-130 million years ago, the Pangea continent was divided into two: Eurasia in the north, Gondwana in the south. Between the two, a new ocean was formed, namely the Tethys Sea.

Since 45 million years ago, the continents have continued to move and form the continents of today. New oceans and seas are born, our earth’s plates are constantly moving, when the plates collide, the earth shakes.
