Al-Marsad newspaper: Tea expert Wael Al-Daghfak, known as the traveler of Al-Khobar and owner of the first tea museum in the Arab world, revealed the history of the arrival of coffee and tea to the Arabian Peninsula, and the secret of their connection to culture.
The expert said: “The Arabs or the people of Najd in the past used to call tea ‘sweet’, and coffee was for men, and tea was for the household, so it was not known to the guests until later.”
He continued: “Coffee enjoyed hospitality, masculinity, and chivalry, and the reason is that it acquired ancient Arabic literature, in preserving coffee and not embracing tea. Tea arrived in Najd only 80 years ago, so it was not recognized in Arabic literature, in order to elevate the status of tea.”
He concluded: “The beginning of the knowledge of coffee was in 1440 AD, and it was known in the Al-Raith region in the Arabian Peninsula, and many foreigners tried to keep it away from the Arabian Peninsula.”
