The History and Success of Latvian Music Group Credo: A 50-Year Journey

Since its foundation in 1974, the Liepāja Group Credo was an excellent combination of talent and joy of playing, earning the undivided love of the audience.

Groups Credo the founder is bass guitarist Valdis Skujiņš, who started rehearsing on October 4, 1974 with singer Ginta Burkevici and guitarist Aivaras Liepiņš. His temperamental, theatrically unleashed, dynamic performance Credo performed at concerts in Latvia and beyond its borders: in Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Germany, Sweden, Georgia, Congo, etc. They have a record – 33 concerts in Vietnam in 18 days, Credo are the pioneers of the tradition of charity events – in 1983 they gathered their listeners in front of Rundāle Castle.

Lost in the carelessness of youth, Credo in the songs, next to humor, serious, even global problems appeared, therefore not only the music, but also the composition changed. In the mid-1980s, V. Bokums was replaced by Guntars Brečs, V. Skujiņas took full responsibility for the administration, and Eduards Glotovs started playing the bass guitar, who was soon invited to Riga Remix. Norland Miller, Eddy Cionelis and Aivars Viksna became Credo members in the late 1980s, but in the 1990s after the hit of Edgars Silacerpa Old friend it seemed that for Credo will have to forget. However, in 1997, something unexpected happened Credo renaissance, when the group organized a concert tour in its classical composition in honor of the release of a selection of the best songs.
