The historical executive of PaSoK, Ioannis Karabatsas, has passed away – 2024-04-13 17:08:07

Ioannis Karabatsas, former member of parliament and lawyer, passed away a few days ago, at the age of 92.

He was born in 1932 in Gerakari, Larissa and studied law at the Law Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He worked as a lawyer in Larissa, from November 12, 1961, when he was appointed a lawyer at the Court of First Instance of Larissa.
He was a founding member of PaSoK and was a candidate for the first time with PaSoK in the national elections of 1977, where he was elected first runner-up deputy of Larissa. In the national elections of 1981, he was elected for the first time as an MP for Larissa with PASOK and was re-elected in 1985 and 1993.

He was a member of the Commission of Inquiry of the Hellenic Parliament in the case of the “Cyprus File” and a member of the Commission of Inquiry in the case of the “Koskotas Scandal”. The funeral service was held today at 12 noon, in the Holy Metropolitan Church of Agios Achillios of Larissa, while his burial will take place in his place of origin, in Gerakari Agia.

PaSoK issued a statement saying goodbye to its founding member. Specifically, the announcement states:

It is with sadness that we say goodbye to the founding member of PaSoK, Ioannis Karabatsa, who left us.

He was elected MP of Larissa for the first time with the Change of 1981 and was a member of the Investigative Committee of the Hellenic Parliament in the case of the “Cyprus File”. He honored the trust of his fellow citizens and served the Democratic Party with ethics and dynamism.
