SPACE — On November 17, 1967, NASA’s Surveyor 6 spacecraft made the first liftoff from the lunar surface. Surveyor 6 is one of several robotic missions NASA sent to observe the lunar surface before sending humans there.
Surveyor 6 took images of the lunar surface and studied the composition of the lunar soil. Then there was a big takeoff.
Surveyor 6 launched from the lunar surface, and jumped to another position eight feet away. Next, Surveyor 6 took pictures of the original landing site.
Mission control on Earth could see Surveyor 6’s shoe prints. They also saw traces of rocket exhaust when Surveyor 6 took off.

Surveyor 6 showed that a spacecraft could land on the moon, and take off again. Less than two years later, humans did the same thing during Apollo 11. Source: Space.com
