LScottie Scheffler’s win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational gave the 25-year-old another boost up the world golf rankings. Three weeks earlier, Scheffler won the Phoenix Open and made the jump to the ‘top 10’, but as of Monday he can boast of being fifth in the standings.
This has caused that for the first time since there is a world ranking the top five are under 30 years old. At the gates of The Players, we have Jon Rahm (27), Collin Morikawa (25), Viktor Hovland (24), Patrick Cantlay (29) and Scheffler (25) at the top.
These data are not surprising, because this season on the PGA TOUR, 11 of 19 victories have been by players who are still in their twenties. Interestingly, this unique ‘top 5’ is at stake for world number one this week, as they all have a chance of leaving TPC Sawgrass at the top of the rankings.
Of course, Cantlay turns 30 on March 17, so soon he will no longer be able to help maintain this historic ‘top 5’. In any case, it should be noted that 15 of the 25 best in the world are currently 20 years old.
