The Historic Center is transformed before ‘New normality’

The streets of Historic center they will be transformed to receive the new normality in that area, which begins on Tuesday at 11:00 am, when they return to activities.

The authorities have already started the installation of fences, signs, lines, posts, traffic lights and other elements for the transformation of the main roads of the center.

The capital’s government will make 30 streets for the exclusive use of pedestrians, which will add to the 12 existing ones.

The new pedestrian streets will be September 16, Ghent, Filomeno Mata, Palma, Aldaco, Meave, San Jerónimo, Regina-Misioneros, Corregidora, Soledad, Emiliano Zapata, Moneda-Seminario, Guatemala, Colombia, Bolivia, Mesones-Ramón Corona, Nacional , Manuel Doblado, San Marcos, Leona Vicario, Rodríguez Puebla, Girón, Argentina, Academia, Las Cruces, Roldán, Santo Tomás, Licenciado Verdad, Torres Quintero and Plaza Las Torres Quintero.

“FLEXIBLE” STREETS

In addition, another 12 streets will be “flexible”, that is, half of the vehicle lanes will be used for pedestrian travel.

The streets where the lanes for cars will be reduced are Palma, Correo Mayor-Del Carmen, San Antonio Tomatlán-San Ildefonso, Venustiano Carranza-Manzanares, Uruguay, Tacuba, May 5, February 5, Jesús María-Loreto, Mesones -Vizcainas, Peru-Apartado-Peña y Peña and Brasil-Monte de Piedad.

Only some streets will maintain their normal operation, that is, where cars can circulate without major restrictions.

The streets where the usual operation continues are Callejón del 57, Plaza de la Constitución, Donceles, Cuba, San Jerónimo, November 20, Pino Suárez, Bolívar-Allende, Isabel La Católica-Chile, República del Salvador, Belisario Domínguez, Eje 1 Oriente, Eje Central and Izazaga-San Pablo.

High-traffic streets such as Francisco I. Madero and Corregidora will operate with restricted access, as police will control the passage to avoid crowds.

Next Tuesday about 27 thousand commercial establishments will return to commercial activity in the Historic Center, with hours from 11:00 to 17:00.

They will do so in a phased manner. The even numbered properties will open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The odd numbered properties will do so on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. And the following week they will exchange shifts.

TRUCKS WILL RETURN

More than 6,000 street vendors will also return to activity. The capital government reported that they agreed that they would also do so in a phased manner.

The eastern part of the Historic Center will be divided into three sections: north, center and south, with the intention that each polygon only operates two days a week.

Street vendors may only place their stalls on 1.20 by 2 meter racks and on the sidewalk opposite open merchant establishments.
