It was found after 18 days the body of Federico Lugato, the 39 year old from Mestre (Venice) who disappeared in Val di Zoldo on the morning of August 26th. After 12 days of uninterrupted searches, the prefecture of Belluno had decided to suspend them. This morning Federico Lugato was found and the Alpine Rescue is currently engaged in the recovery of the body. Il Gazzettino writes it.
The body was found by the canine units of the Guardia di Finanza one hundred meters from the junction for the Col de Michiel, in the area where the searches had been concentrated in the San Sebastiano Group. Just this afternoon a summit was called in the prefecture to take stock of the case, after the searches had been suspended last Sunday. And before the summit this morning a final reconnaissance was decided with three canine units of the Finance of the Passo Rolle station, the Alpine School Training Center and the Auronzo di Cadore station: the dogs found the body under a rocky cliff. Federico probably slipped during his walk.
Federico Lugato had a degree in occupational psychology and worked as an employee of Rfi (Italian railway network) in Milan, where he had his residence and lived with his wife. According to the first rumors, it was found by the Guardia di Finanza, in the area between Col de Michiel and Baita Bivacco Angelini.
The wife: “We’ll make it somehow”
«They found Federico. We will make it somehow. Thanks also to you ». He writes it in a “story” on his Instagram profile Elena Panciera, wife of Federico Lugato. Elena Panciera had activated many friends and acquaintances via social networks, who had participated in the research and had activated a fundraiser. In the last few days she had returned home to Milan. The message is contained in a short video where Lugato plays with the house cat.
The dynamics of the accident
The body of Federico Lugato, found this morning around 12.00 along the path of the San Sebastiano group after 18 days, was transferred to the mortuary in the municipality of Val di Zoldo (Belluno). The mayor, Camillo De Pellegrin, reported this to Ansa. The discovery took place thanks to molecular dogs, in an area where the first searches had been concentrated, but which with the pause of a few days allowed the animals to smell the trace of the body. Lugato was identified just off the path, at the intersection of paths 536 and 524 from Pian de le Mandre and Col de Michiel, above the hamlet of Pralongo. It was from here that the 39-year-old left his car on August 26 to start the excursion.
Among the first hypotheses, which will have to be supported by the investigations ordered by the judiciary, there could be that of an accident that occurred while Lugato had moved slightly away from the main path, sliding disastrously into an area of undergrowth. The family of Lugato’s wife, Elena Panciera, is originally from Pralongo, and the couple owns a house in the hamlet of Fornesighe where they were spending their holidays.
