Quite impressively, RC Lens celebrated at PSG to launch a 2023 year that looks promising. For their part, Amiens SC finished 2022 with a win as VAFC faced their inherent limitations. The tops
An untouchable RC lens at home
Despite some great challenges so far at Bollaert-Delélis, RC Lens certainly faced their biggest opponents of the season at home when they took on the undefeated Paris leaders. And even though Paris Saint-Germain showed up at Lens without Neymar or Messi, the Sang et Or weren’t the favourites. No matter, they maintained their perfection at home, inflicting their first setback on Christophe Galtier’s players. Nine games, nine wins, Lens are unbeaten at home in 2022-2023 and are still unbeaten at home since 5 March.
Finally a win for Amiens SC
Two and a half months after their success at home against Dijon, Amiens SC are back on their way to victory in the league. Past close to Valenciennes, deserving of better during some defeats, the Samaritan club has left nothing to chance this time. Very solid in defense, serious and applied in midfield, Amiens were also very effective in attack by finding the back of the net despite a low number of goal situations. A success that allows us to finally savor the three points and to be four points away from second place at the dawn of a 2023 that promises to be exciting.
The flops
The lack of reaction from the VAFC
Apart from the poor performance offered by Nicolas Rabuel’s men, it was the lack of reaction that was the problem. Despite an early shot on goal early in the second period, VA never really woke up from this bad dream. Neither the goal nor the changes made by the coach will have allowed a burst of pride within the Valenciennes troop. In addition, the VAFC players physically equalized and it was felt a lot after the game. In fact, the long balls in the last few minutes did not translate into any real chances and Bastia was able to repel all these attempts without difficulty.
Edon Zhegrova, a symbol of the inefficiency of the LOSC
For the second time in a row, the Kosovar was preferred to Adam Ounas on the right wing. The reason ? A physical condition not yet 100% for the Algerian, usually the owner. Indeed, Zhegrova had the opportunity to show herself. Of four of his shots, only one landed and it was in no danger to Diouf. However, the right winger was often found by his teammates in depth, so he had a number of chances. However, if his technique follows, his efficiency does not. Therefore, he has disappointed both the observers and the fans, not to mention his coach. The hopes placed on Edon Zhegrova are in vain in the last two meetings.
