The German show jumpers put in a remarkable performance in the qualification: The trio around Vice European Champion Philipp Weishaupt and Zineday were the only team to remain faultless and thus finished the preliminary round in first place. “We have achieved our first goal,” commented national coach Otto Becker. “Everyone performed well. But we haven’t won anything yet.” On Friday, all teams will start from scratch again. However, hopes of further medals in equestrian sport have been raised following Michael Jung’s eventing gold medal.

On Thursday, Germany’s 3×3 basketball players had to get up at 5:50 a.m. to make it to their game against Canada on time. The early bird caught the worm: Captain Svenja Brunkhorst’s team beat the previously unbeaten Canadians 19:15, and are still in the race to reach the semifinals. In the evening, the team beat Azerbaijan 12:8. This Friday, the alarm clock will ring early again. Then, from 9 a.m., the opponent on the Place de la Concorde will be China. The duel with Spain will not follow until 7 p.m., and at 9:30 p.m. they will play against France.
