The highlights of New York Fashion Week SS22

New York Fashion Week is back after three seasons of almost exclusively digital shows. Although, in fairness, we must admit that fashion week in the United States is increasingly losing relevance. For years it has been an empty run of big names showing their collections elsewhere. For this spring/summer 2022 season, only 20 designers showed their collections through a traditional fashion show. Although there were still some clappers, and also a number of new names.

Tom Ford

“My clothes are simple in cut this season, but not impactful,” designer Tom Ford told about his new collection for Spring/Summer 2022. And you can take that quite literally. For example, he presented mostly sportswear-inspired silhouettes, but executed in shiny and colorful fabrics. Probably inspired by the comfortable clothes we wore during the pandemic, but then topped with a sauce of hope. Relevant now that we can finally get back a taste of’ normal life ‘ – read: partying – but holding our hearts for new waves and lockdowns. He concluded with the words of the well-known fashion journalist Diana Vreeland: “I know it’s a lot, but is it enough?”

Maryam Nassir Zadeh

Although Maryam Nassir Zadeh has been worn in the fashion world for years, the general public knows her almost exclusively from her shoes that go over the counter like hot cakes. A shame, because the designer also creates beautiful fashion. This collection was a lot more minimalist than we are used to from her. Uncomplicated, but stunningly stylish is the best way to sum it up. We all saw looks that you want to wear so much. And moreover, she chose particularly diverse models, including (Hallelujah) even a plus-size male model.

Proenza Schouler

“They are cheerful clothes to take a step back into the world,” said Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler. The duo was inspired by their first holiday after their vaccination, which is reflected in the floral prints, bright colors and loose silhouettes. They showed us a cheerful and relaxed collection that beautifully reflects a casual holiday feeling.

Markarian

Thanks to the dress that Jill Biden wore during her husband’s inauguration, Markarian quickly grew out of one of the hottest brands of the moment. Designer Alexandra O’neill loves romantic fashion, pastel colors and lovely prints. From expensive materials, flattering silhouettes and a lot of flowers. Girlish, but without falling into cliches. We immediately understood her popularity after seeing this fresh collection. You can see both the First Lady and any woman in the street wearing her designs. Fashion by and for women.

Altuzarra

For four years, Joseph Altuzarra presented his collections in Paris, before making his comeback in New York. During the pandemic, he could no longer travel to the French capital, which, in his own words, made him “fall in love with the Big Apple again”. He presented a lot of inspiration for the comeback to the office here-think cool suits, knitted dresses and tie dye in surprising places.
