The Czechs love the Merkur car park
If, like us, you plan to go to the popular South Moravian motorhome Merkur and stay here in one of the bungalows or cottages, don’t even try without an early reservation. These accommodation capacities are usually already sold out for the summer at the beginning of May. If you still want to enjoy a few days by the water, you have nothing else to do pack up a tent or caravan and rent any of the boxes with electrical connection.
You should know: You need to bring your own extension cable with a maximum length of 25 meters to the box!
Prices that put us on our asses
Price list on the Merkur campsite website may seem at first glance enticingly and promise an affordable vacation. But you will find out on the second one that neither the cheapest option (rental of a box for a tent or caravan) you won’t save much. You are not only paying for the box itself here (price from 490 CZK/night in high season), but also for the number of persons accommodated (children from 120 CZK/night, adults from 160 CZK/night) and parking fees (from 120 CZK per vehicle up to 3.5 tons/night). When you add to the above fee to the municipality (adults pay 20 CZK/night), you can get to an amount that will put you on your ass. And literally!
You could be interested in: The aforementioned Merkur campsite also charges a 25% surcharge for weekend accommodation during the high season (Friday-Saturday and Saturday-Sunday)! However, the surcharge does not apply to accommodation longer than 2 nights and to families with children. But others pay extra for their stay.
Is a beer for 65 CZK and a jug of water five crowns cheaper?
It is not much more famous in the local restaurants and grocery stores, where the prices are not comparable to those you are used to from Croatia or Italy, for example. Beer for 65 CZK there is certainly no exception here. For an iced coffee, you will pay exactly one hundred and for a glass of Pálava easily 85 crowns. A pint of Kofola will set you back “meet“. A liter of water in a jug you will get for 60 CZK a „turkish” for 40 crowns. Prices indeed “the people“, see?

A pile of vegetables for two hundred
The same is true of meal prices. For example, for 120 grams favorite “fryer” you pay at first sight “acceptable“ 129 crowns. Only much later will you find out that it only works about a portion of cheese without side dish and sauce. So add to 129 crowns French fries „falls“ a 35 crowns for tartare out of the bag, and you’re on the same page 214 crowns.
If it only satisfies you soupwithdraw at least from your wallet 69 crowns. And the daily menu usually doesn’t get under 160 crowns. Are you watching the line? A pile of vegetables with toast here you get for over two hundred! If you have roast beef cut into your salad, with a price tag don’t count below three hundred. And the sweet spot at the end? For big ice cream you will pay the same as for a liter of water in a mug – that is 60 crowns.

Three days for the family for 20,000 CZK!
If you were convinced until now that a stay in a campsite is an affordable alternative to a holiday by the sea, the Merkur car camp in Pasohlávky will soon lead you astray. You pay for the cheapest accommodation in a box under the tent for two adults and two children under 12 years of age CZK 3,720. If we count CZK 500 for food and CZK 300 for drinks per person per daythen add others to the mentioned amount 9,600 CZK.
And because many visitors combine accommodation at the Merkur campsite with a visit the neighboring water parkto the amount of CZK 13,320, add two non-discounted admissions for adults (2x 1,049 CZK and 2x 699 CZK) and some consumption (approx CZK 2,500/4 persons per day), we arrive at the sum 19,316 crowns!
If, like us, you are heading here from the Ostrava metropolis in an older Octavia (we traveled 400 km there and back with average consumption 4.8l/100km a diesel price in Přerov 32.80 CZK/l = 630 CZK), then for this three-day holiday in the Merkur camp and South Moravian Pasohlávky you will pay less than 55 crowns 20,000 CZK! Whether this is adequate price for three days under the tent and a full-day visit crowded water park We’ll leave it up to you…
