The Hidden Dangers of the Fashion Industry: A Model’s Battle with Body Image and Self-acceptance

The 181cm tall and only 49kg paper model female model wakes up to be healthy

(AFP, Paris, 24th) Paris Fashion Week will debut tomorrow, but the French female model Maud, who is 181 centimeters tall and weighed only 49 kilograms. Maud Le Fort won’t be on the runway because she chose health over a career on the runway.

At the age of 18, Lefou came to Paris to pursue a modeling career, but was immediately labeled as a “commercial model”, that is, not thin enough to walk in high-end fashion shows.

She told AFP: “At that time, my waist was 36.6cm wide and my bust was 85C, so I had ‘curves’.”

“In Paris, I was told that I could only show underwear and some very commercial things, nothing fashionable at all.”

Refusing to give up on her dream, LeFou worked hard to lose weight, but not through any exercise, as muscle and fat were equally unwelcome on the runway.

“I weigh myself almost every day. The more I lose, the more congratulations I get,” she said.

Despite her height of 181 centimeters, LeFou reduced herself to just 49 kilograms and successfully walked for Armani, Balmain, Jean Paul Gaultier and Yohji Yamamoto.

Later, she realized this was really crazy.

“One day, I said, ‘Stop this. I’m going to eat, I’m going to exercise,'” LeFou said.

Now in her 30s, she is taking drama classes and undergoing therapy to increase her self-confidence and get rid of depression and eating disorders that she has struggled with for many years.

“I still haven’t fully accepted my body for what it is, and my relationship with food isn’t entirely healthy,” she said.

These days, she works mostly in less stressful graphic photography jobs.

But it also distressed her to see photos of herself that had been “retouched greatly,” which Lever said created unrealistic expectations for young girls.

“It’s shocking and it’s sad,” she said.

Some people are lucky enough to be able to escape this ordeal; many are not so lucky.

Brazilian female model Tatiana was fired from an agency after five years at the agency because she gained a few kilograms due to stress and hormonal treatment.

However, fashion has been the only profession she has been familiar with since adolescence.

“I was fired without warning, and it was very painful for me to lose the fashion stage,” she told AFP.
