The HHU has chosen its favorite Heine quote 2020
10th quotation competition on the occasion of Heinrich Heine’s 223rd birthday
How fitting in the Corona year: “I am writing these lines in the last hours of the outgoing bad year. The new one is at the door. May it be less cruel than its predecessor! ”- these sentences from Heine’s Lutezia were chosen by the members of the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU) as their favorite quote of 2020. For the tenth time the vote took place on the occasion of the birthday of the namesake of the university on December 13th.
Heinrich Heine would have been 223 years old today. On this occasion, students, scientists and employees at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf cast more than 250 votes. More than 80 votes (33 percent) were given to the winner quote.
“I am writing these lines in the last hours of the departing bad year. The new one is at the door. May it be less cruel than its predecessor! “
A shirt with these Heine words will be raffled off among everyone who voted for the quote. And for the 10th anniversary of the competition, there are ten other special gifts: 3D miniatures of the Heine statue that is on the campus in front of the university and state library. The winners will be notified by email.
The miniatures were printed at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy using a 3D printer. Special thanks for their commitment and support of the competition go to Hellen Windolf and Dr. Julian Quodbach.
In the last few years the following favorite quotes from Heinrich Heine have been chosen:
2019: “Sleep is the most delicious invention.”
2018: “Sages invent new thoughts and fools spread them.”
2017: “The words are there to hide our thoughts”
2016: “Anyone who has never been foolish in life has never been a wise man.”
2015: “A bit of education adorns the whole person”
2014: “A clever person notices everything, a stupid person makes his own remarks about everything.”
