Erabaru.net. The hero student who dramatically saved a dog from the canal has been talking about the rescue mission.
Viral footage shows the dog floundering in a canal in Ancoats, Manchester, England, before a group of men come to his aid.
Jack Spencer Furmston and Ben Camphor – both 20 years old – were driving home from the coffee shop when they saw the Akyol Stone holding an iron against the wall next to the canal.
Ben said he initially thought Batu must be taking his ducks out for a walk, but when he peered into the water he saw the dog Sumak “really thrashing about”.
Without hesitation, they went into action, and being the highest, Ben volunteered to be taken down to the dogs in distress.
Five other people joined in on the rescue mission, holding Ben by the feet and lowering him headfirst into the water.
In the video recorded by spectator Dabhidh MchicEamailinn, Sumak can be seen trying to grip the wall before Ben can finally grab him by the collar.
The rest of the party then pulled Ben back ashore as he gripped Sumak, and as they neared the top of the wall, the distressed dog was seen wagging his tail in relief.
This is truly heartwarming stuff.
As they all made it back to solid ground, the audience could be heard clapping and cheering the rescuers on for their heroic deed.
“Everyone was freaking out,” recalls Jack.
“I couldn’t let the dog down and not help, so I dropped my jumper and got into action – get off first.”
“I’m a dog owner myself, so there’s no chance I’ll leave him alone, but I couldn’t get him the first time.”
Having performed a daring rescue mission, not only the audience was very happy.
Jack said his owner Batu was overjoyed, as was Sumak, and they ran around the canal together to celebrate.
Jack said: “The crowd started to grow, so the tallest person – who was Ben – flipped over and he was able to catch the dog, as shown in the video.
“After that, the dog was wagging its tail and jumping up and down, very excited.”
Ahhh, great news. Feels good, right?(yn)
