The hero of “In the kingdom of big cats” loses his zoo

The main character in the Netflix series “In the kingdom of big cats” was forced by the courts to transfer the ownership of his famous zoo to his sworn enemy, whom he had wanted to assassinate. The documentary has thrilled millions of viewers.

A colorful character who did a lot for the popularity of the series, Joe Exotic, whose real name is Joe Maldonado-Passage, was sentenced in January to 22 years in prison for attempted murder. He is currently in detention.

He attacked Carole Baskin, defender of the animal cause and critic of her methods, in particular the excessive reproduction of felines, the possibility for visitors to pet them, as well as the ill-treatment which led to the death of several animals. .

Record for Netflix

In a decision released Monday after four years of proceedings, an Oklahoma City federal judge ordered the transfer of ownership of the approximately six-hectare piece of land on which the zoo is located south of Oklahoma City. The Greater Wynnewood Development Group, formerly controlled by Joe Exotic, will have to vacate the premises, “including the evacuation of all animals from the zoo,” the judge ordered.

Although the owner, Joe Exotic, was previously in prison, the zoo continued to operate. The site had just reopened in early May after several weeks of closure due to containment.

The former economic partner of Joe Exotic had officially bought the company GWDG, but the federal magistrate nevertheless decided to transfer the ownership of the place.

“Tiger King”, a seven-part documentary, was one of the most watched programs in Netflix history. The online broadcasting platform announced in late April that within a month, 64 million subscribers had seen all or part of the series.

Joe Exotic, 57, made an official pardon request to US President Donald Trump in early May.
