Last spring, a tourist from Bergamo who was on holiday in Ischia was involved in a serious road accident and arrived in very serious conditions at the “Rizzoli” hospital in Lacco Ameno, due to a large laceration to her liver. Given the impossibility of transferring her to Naples due to the severity of her injuries, Doctor Domenico Loffredo took on the responsibility of operating on her immediately, thus saving her life.
“In recent days, with a very heartfelt and well-attended ceremony, the Order of Surgeons and Dentists of Naples and its province celebrated the prestigious achievement of its members who graduated forty years ago, way back in 1984. In the context During the ceremony, some doctors who performed heroic actions with which they saved human lives were also rewarded. Among these was the Neapolitan surgeon, now an Ischia native by adoption, Dr. Mimmo Loffredo who last April in a desperate emergency situation, took on the responsibility of operating on her, effectively saving her life as underlined by Dr. Bruno Zuccarelli, President of the Medical Association, reading the motivation for the Award”, writes Gennaro Wise.
“It was a great satisfaction – stated Loffredo – to be rewarded by the Medical Association for the operation performed on the lady from Bergamo who was on holiday in Ischia and with which we gave an example of good healthcare in the island and in Campania. A major surgery was carried out, a liver lesion which we treated as an emergency here in Ischia. The result was excellent, the patient was discharged after twenty days, she had no complications and is still well. I want to dedicate this award to colleagues who are no longer with us because they died suddenly and prematurely such as Alberto Evangelista, Fabrizio Lo Jodice, Giovanni Manco and Peppino Cioffi. Doctors who sacrificed their lives for ‘Rizzoli’”.
