In the town of Rancho Palos Verdes in Los Angeles, California, impressive cracks of a considerably large size appeared that have caused fear among the inhabitants.
Videos circulating on social media show huge cracks dividing streets, homes, and even houses collapsing. Residents are therefore fearful of a possible major earthquake.
The city is located about 40 kilometers south of downtown Los Angeles and is largely made up of mansions that were built on cliffs for the views they offer of the sea.
“The landslide has accelerated dramatically over the past 12 months, with areas where it is moving up to 25 centimeters a week,” Councilman David Bradley told CNN. “You can almost see the ground moving.”
The landslides, in addition to the damage they cause to the mansions, deform the roads. For this reason, on September 3, the governor of California, Gavin Newson, announced a “state of emergency” for the area at the request of the municipal authorities.
