We leave behind the heat wave that has hit the province of Alicante this weekend and that has left records according to the AEMET of 43.7 degrees in Orihuela, 43.4 in Villena, 43.2 in Novelda, 42.6 in Pinoso, 42.4 in Alcoy or 41.3 in Elche.
Other towns in the province were close to reaching 40 degrees. It is the case of Alicante capital with 39.5; Rojales with 39; Alicante-Elche Airport with 38.7, Xàbia with 37.9 or 36.2 in Benidorm.
In the Alicante town of Novelda, the 43.2 degrees that have been reached this day is the highest temperature in this town since July 7, 1994. This municipality, with data from 1966, has only twice exceeded 43 degrees , the aforementioned July 7, 1994 and July 8, 1982, both with 44.0º.
At the Alicante observatory, this Sunday’s record, 39.5 degrees, is the highest since August 27, 2010 (40.4º) and the eleventh highest in the historical series of the Ciudad Jardín observatory, which began his observations in 1939.
Today a notable drop in temperatures is expected, especially the maximum. For this Monday there are no longer warnings activated by high temperatures. According to the AEMET, today it will reach 35 degrees in Elche, 34 in Alcoy and Orihuela, 33 in Dénia or 33 in Alicante capital. Minimum temperatures will range between 20 and 24 degrees.
The sky will be slightly cloudy in general and in the interior of the province showers or isolated storms in the afternoon are not ruled out.
