The Heat prepares Dwyane Wade statue

The growing list of statues honoring legendary players of the NBA is getting another legendary name, Dwyane Wade.

After revealing in January that a Dwyane Wade statue would soon be unveiled, the Miami Heat announced that the statue will be unveiled on October 27 in front of the Kaseya Center.

“When we retired his jersey in February 2020, I said Dwyane was the face of this franchise forever and I meant it,” Heat president Pat Riley said in a statement in January. “Dwyane’s legacy is awe-inspiring not only for the Miami Heat but for Miami-Wade County. I can’t think of a better way to honor him than by commemorating that legacy.”

Omri Amrany and Oscar Leon of Rotblatt Amrany Fine Art Studio were commissioned to create the Wade statue. Amrany’s works of retired NBA stars include Chicago’s iconic “Michael Jordan Spirit,” as well as statues of Shaquille O’Neal, Dirk Nowitzki and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, among many others.

Wade was drafted by the Heat in 2003 and was named to the All-Rookie Team. He was a 13-time All-Star and led the Heat to their first NBA title in 2006, winning Finals MVP. After teaming with LeBron James and Chris Bosh in 2010, he helped lead the Heat to back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013.

In 15 seasons with the Heat, Wade averaged 22.7 points, 5.6 assists and 4.7 rebounds, including the NBA scoring title in 2009.

Wade was named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team and was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame in 2023.
