The heat again? Excessive heat warning issued for eastern half of San Diego County – San Diego Union-Tribune

The National Weather Service reported that a excessive heat warning Thursday for areas of San Diego County east of Interstate 15, as unseasonably warm weather spreads across most of California.

Daytime high temperatures in areas like Ramona and Alpine will be in the 98 to 100 degree range on Tuesday and will rise slightly on Wednesday and possibly Thursday. Escondido and El Cajon will be in the 95 to 99 degree range all three days.

San Diego will also be unseasonably warm with daytime highs in the 80s. Forecasters say the temperature will drop into the 70s by 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, around the time the Padres will host the Atlanta Braves at Petco Park in the National League playoff games.

The heat wave will produce unusually warm nighttime temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday, making it difficult for people without air conditioning to sleep.

There will be an elevated risk of wildfires in rural areas of the county, where relative humidity will drop to the 15 to 20 percent range.

The 2023-24 water year ended Monday with San Diego International Airport recording 12.43 inches of rain, which was 2.64 inches above average.

The hydrological year, also known as the rainy season, runs from October 1 to September 30 each year. Forecasters say the new rainy season could prove drier than normal because a La Niña weather pattern is expected to set in.
