National team captain Russia, Artem Dzyuba finally open the voice regarding the criticism that came from the players UkraineVitaliy Mykolenko and Andriy Yarmolenko regarding Russian players who have kept silent about their country’s invasion.
Mykolenko wrote a message on Instagram on Tuesday (1/3). The Everton player accused the Russian players of not showing support for the Ukrainian people.
“While you remain silent, damn it, along with your football teammates, peaceful civilians are being killed in Ukraine,” Mykolenko wrote.
A similar criticism was made by Yarmolenko, who said he was surprised that none of the Russian players spoke about the invasion of their homeland into Ukraine.
Dzyuba finally responded to the criticism through his Instagram account on Wednesday (2/3). In his upload, Dzyuba said war is a terrible thing.
Even so, Dzyuba also wrote that he was still proud to be Russian and then criticized the Ukrainian players who were sitting comfortably in their home in England when they talked about war.
“Until now, I don’t want to talk about the topic of events in Ukraine. I don’t want to, not because I’m afraid, but because I’m not a political expert. But like others, I have my own opinion. Because I was brought up on this topic. , then I will say it,” said Dzyuba.
“I’m against any war. War is a scary thing. But I’m also against human aggression and hatred, which is getting bigger every day. I’m not afraid that I’m Russian. I’m proud to be Russian. And I don’t understand why athletes have to suffer now. I am against double standards,” he continued.
Russian football itself was heavily affected by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The Russian national team will certainly not be able to compete in the 2022 World Cup playoffs and Russian clubs are banned from playing in the FIFA and UEFA arenas.
