The hearings on the storming of the Capitol divide the United States

The public hearings on the storming of the Capitol were intended to renew the democratic consensus in the United States. Instead, they continue to divide the country. Republicans’ ignorance of facts is playing with fire: a recipe for new violence.

Almost a year and a half ago, on January 6, 2021, angry Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in Washington to use violence to prevent their idol from losing in the elections. On Thursday evening (local time), the House of Representatives commission of inquiry presented for the first time findings on how the storming of the symbol of American democracy could have come about and who was responsible for it.
