The diligence was installed in the National Court of Justice the morning of this February 21, 2024. This is an appeal hearing for preventive detention, requested by the former vice president Jorge Glasin the call Manabí Reconstruction case.

The latter also requested an appeal to the preventive detention order against him. However, this morning his defense did not appear and thus, the judges in the case declared the appeal was abandoned. This reaffirms the arrest warrant against the former official.
On the other hand, in the case of Glas, the preventive detention order has been in effect since the previous January. That month, he was officially notified that he had a preventive detention order against him.
Glas He is currently in the embassy of Mexico as a “guest”. He took refuge there on December 16, 2023, after learning that the Prosecutor’s Office requested that he be located for the corresponding investigations.

According to The Telegraphhe Ministry of Foreign Affairs published a statement this afternoon in which it also indicates that it has delivered to the government of Mexico all documentation issued by the National Court of Justice and the Prosecutor’s Office on the judicial situation of Glas.
“For him Ecuador a possible granting of diplomatic asylum by Mexico, by virtue of the provisions of Article III of said Convention. This is how the ambassador has been informed Raquel Serurwho was summoned to the Foreign Ministry,” reads the statement.
As confirmed by the Foreign Ministry, Glas requested diplomatic asylum and, if granted, the Ecuador I would have to deliver a safe conduct.
Lastly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated in a statement that, “in the face of a possible granting of diplomatic asylum by Mexicosituation that Ecuador “I would deplore, the Foreign Ministry will act with absolute firmness, based on the high interests of the State.”
