Sukabumi, West Java (ANTARA) – The Sukabumi City Health Office has confirmed that measles cases in Sukabumi City, West Java, can be controlled and there has never been an extraordinary event (KLB) in the last two years.
“Over the past two years there have only been eight cases of measles in Sukabumi City, of which two cases will be in 2021 and six cases in 2022,” said the Head of the Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) Division of the Sukabum City Health Office, Wita Darmawanti, in Sukabumi, Friday.
According to Wita, cases of measles affecting children have become a concern in Indonesia, especially the City of Sukabumi in the last two years due to obstacles in providing immunizations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even so, he appreciates the awareness of parents in providing measles immunization to their children before the COVID-19 pandemic occurred.
“However, what is of concern is the children who were born during theof the COVID-19 pandemic, so that many have not received immunizations,” he said.
Therefore, his party appealed to parents, especially those who have not immunized their children against measles, to immunize them immediately at the nearest health center.
“In anticipation of an increase in measles cases, we urge residents to immediately carry out measles immunization, especially for children who have not been given this immunization,” he said.

Wita said residents must also know how to prevent and transmit it, and know someone who has contracted measles, such as red eyes and sensitivity to light, similar to symptoms of a cold, weakness, fatigue, and high fever.
In addition, feeling aches and pains in the joints, loss of appetite, diarrhea and visible small grayish white patches in the patient’s mouth and throat.
“If these symptoms are seen in a child or family, immediately rush them to the hospital or take them to the doctor,” said Wita.

“Apart from that, what residents should know is that the transmission of diseases caused by viruses is from families paramyxovirus namely from splashes of saliva of measles patients when they sneeze or cough and items that have been used to eat or drink measles patients that have not been washed because this virus can survive in an item for some time,” he said.
