The Health Department held a first workshop on Tuesday with 6 municipalities of the Windward Islands. It will be followed by a second in April for the other voluntary municipalities, then will be offered to the municipalities of the archipelagos.
With the improvement in recent weeks of the epidemic situation of covid-19, the Health department wanted to start preparing for the post-epidemic phase. The idea is to restore the health of the population to help revive the economic and social development of the municipalities and the country.
In fact, in addition to its direct effects on health, any large-scale epidemic is accompanied by collateral phenomena indirectly impacting the state of health of a population. These include economic phenomena, breaks in social and family ties, chronic illnesses that have not been followed up, psychological phenomena, the cessation of physical and cultural activities. All these elements combine to worsen the state of health of the population.
However, the good health of populations is a fundamentally necessary element for economic and social development. Indeed, good health, defined by the WHO as a state of physical, mental and social well-being, is an essential tool for each individual, allowing him to achieve his personal, family and professional projects. The economy has been heavily impacted by the epidemic and the return of the population to better health is imperative for development.
The Polynesian Health Service has developed, for this, a number of health promotion devices, relatively easy to implement, adapted to the Polynesian world, that the voluntary municipalities can put in place to stimulate the improvement of health. health of their population.
The purpose of this workshop is to present these devices to the municipalities, to work on concrete examples and to set up a technical assistance process between the health service and the municipal teams.
