The new pupils and students of the Institute for Training in Health Professions (IFMS) started their new school year on Tuesday, September 3, in Narbonne, during a day dedicated to welcoming and integration.
The Health Care Training Institutes (IFSI for nurses and IFAS for nursing assistants) of Narbonne and Lézignan-Corbières organized their welcome and integration day for new students on Tuesday, September 3 at the Montplaisir estate (salle des foudres) in Narbonne. The objective of this meeting day is to encourage exchanges between new students and students, and to introduce them to the resources of the territory that will be theirs during their training. The Institute’s teaching team, the management team and the managers of the Narbonne, Lézignan and Port-La Nouvelle hospitals were present to answer the questions of future professionals about the progress of their health studies and provide them with the information necessary for their integration. “This day was a success and our partners were delighted.rejoices the director Muriel Dodéro, on the way out. She has in fact exercised her rights to retirement, and it is now up to Marie-Thérèse Gantner, general coordinator of care at the hospitals of Narbonne, Lézignan and Port-La Nouvelle, to supervise the Institute, “until we find my replacement.” A health professions training institute (IFMS) which will move, as announced several months ago, to the Coupe area in 2026 and not in 2025, as work on its high environmental performance building has been delayed.
More students and many projects
In Narbonne, the IFMS will therefore remain based for the time being in the heart of the city, on the Quai Dillon. For this 2024 academic year, it will welcome 90 first-year nursing students (with some returning from interruptions and two repeaters) and 77 first-year nursing assistants, 63 in Narbonne plus one person in validation of acquired skills and experience, ten in the apprentice training center, two repeaters and one person continuing their studies. In Lézignan, there will be 30 new nursing assistant students plus one apprentice. It is up to Véronique Bonnemains, educational coordinator, to be the contact for training managers and students.
The IFMS is carrying out several projects for this year 2024-2025, namely a partnership with the wound and healing hospital of Baleveng, in Cameroon, which will see two students go on an internship with a training manager, medication and care equipment. Several student nursing assistants will also work with the Narbo Via museum on the theme of art in care. Another project, moreover, is a co-work between the executives of the Institute and the executives of the CH of Narbonne, where one will discover the work of the other and vice versa. Another project will focus on training engineering which will allow students to move on to a university course at the start of the 2025 school year. Finally, thanks to a new system implemented next year, nursing assistants with three years of experience and under certain conditions will be able to enter directly into the 2nd year of nursing training.
