Jonava District Mayor Mindaugas Sinkevičius and Deputy Mayor Birutė Gailienė thanked the rescuers who pulled out two children from the Rukla pond on Monday.
Four soldiers serving in Rukla – private Benas Andriulis of Colonel Juozos Vitkaus’ engineering battalion, chief. private Paulius Filatovas, chief. private Lukas Čižauskas, sergeant Evaldas Mikšys of the King’s Mindaugas Hussars Battalion and two firefighters of the Jonava District Fire Service Rukla team – Laimonas Remeika and Vilmas Palaima visited the municipality, where they were presented with the mayor’s thanks.
“Thank you for your quick reaction, courage and flawless performance of your duties. We are glad that thanks to you this instructive story has a happy ending. We are very proud of all of you”, thanked Mayor M. Sinkevičius.
On March 20 of this year, Monday, around 3 p.m. four soldiers saw that two small children were broken on the ice in the pond near the Rukla school. The soldiers called the services and rushed to rescue the children themselves. Using the leash of a passerby’s dog, they pulled one child ashore.
Rukla firefighters arrived soon and pulled out the second child.
According to the rescuers, the two minors were handed over to medics, but they were not seriously injured: they recovered with fright and wet clothes.
