The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, and the Councilor for Sports, Alicia Cebrián, have held a meeting with representatives of the Canary Wrestling Federation of Tenerife, where they have agreed on the transfer of the Perico Perdomo land, in the neighborhood de La Salud, as the headquarters of the future Insular School of Canarian Wrestling.

In this meeting, the implementation of the project “Fighting in my school” was also agreed, which will allow the introduction of vernacular sport in five schools in the capital, reports the city council in a statement.

The meeting was attended by Jeremías Hernández, president of the Canary Wrestling Federation of Tenerife, along with his colleagues Santiago Gutiérrez, Cristina Febles and Anatael Palmero, as well as the technical director of the Sports area of ​​the City Council, Sabino Maestro.

Bermúdez has assured that it is an honor for Santa Cruz to host the future headquarters of the first Insular School of Tenerife “As a platform to promote and root the Canarian struggle in the capital of the island.”

The mayor has insisted that it is a “great news for the vernacular sport, “At a time when everything indicates that an anticovid protocol will finally be launched that allows the practice of Canarian fighting”, has continued.

As explained by Cebrián, an installation such as the Perico Perdomo field will be used to host courses, technifications and preselections, as well as finals of the basic categories and any other competition, in order to promote the practice of Canarian fighting among the smallest .

“From the Sports area, the necessary investments will be made to fine-tune the Perico Perdomo land and make it a center for the dissemination and promotion of indigenous sports”, the counselor has promised.

Finally, the federative leaders have thanked the City Council for its willingness and collaboration, as well as the acceptance of the project “Struggling at my school”, which will be launched when the prohibition of the practice of Canarian wrestling is lifted and which will allow the introduction of vernacular sport in five schools in the capital as a way to create schools and promote the quarry.
