The headman of the Prague region, in which the Konevu monument was demolished, complained about Russia in the EC

Ondřej Kolář, the head of the Prague-6 district, sent an open letter to the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. In it, he complains about the actions of Russia in connection with the demolition of the monument to Marshal of the Soviet Union Ivan Konev, who was in the administrative territory of the district, Czech Radio reported.

According to Kolarge, the dismantling of the monument caused an inadequate reaction in Russia. To municipal politicians threats are heard, including calls for liquidation. They are called the Nazis, and the Kolarge itself is called the Gauleiter (the so-called posts of regional party bosses in the Third Reich).

As noted by Kolarge, the authorities had the right to dismantle the monument to Marshal Konev, since it was owned by the Prague-6 district. The European Commission should condemn the actions of the Russian Federation, as they constitute interference in the internal affairs of the Czech Republic. According to Kolarge, Prague has become a venue for a hybrid war against the European Union.

Despite the negative reaction of the Czech president and public protests, the monument was dismantled April 3, reports TASS. It is planned to transfer it to the Museum of the XX century (it should be created by the Prague City Hall). The decision to postpone the municipal authorities of the Prague-6 district on September 12, 2019. The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case on the fact of the dismantling of the monument (article “The desecration of the symbols of military glory of Russia, committed publicly”).

The Russian Federation expects a response from the Czech Republic to the proposal to start a dialogue on a gross violation of obligations under a joint agreement on the foundations of friendly relations of 1993 with dismantling the monument to Marshal of the Soviet Union Ivan Konev. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, according to the agreement, the Czech Republic is obliged to protect and provide access to monuments, including the monument to Marshal Konev.
