Yevgeny Prigozhin, who is close to the Russian president Vladimir Putin
Vladimir Putin – Russian politician. Born on October 7, 1952 in Leningrad, now St. Petersburg. Through and head of the Wagner mercenary group, has criticized Russian oligarchs and other wealthy people in the country, DPA reported. The criticisms were made in Prigozhin’s interview for RT TV, broadcast today, BTA reported.
Prigozhin, who has rarely appeared in public in the past, advocated depriving the oligarchs of their fortunes in order to eventually force them to support the Russian military on the Ukrainian front.
“The oligarchs are scared. They like their comfort. They want to dive into heated pools in the evening and enjoy life,” said Prigozhin, 61.
“At some point you have to realize that you have to part with all your possessions, the glamorous world, the restaurants, the spas, the villas and the swimming pools. The sooner all this is taken away from you, the better Prigozhin told the wealthy Russians.
In the West, Prigozhin is also perceived as a Russian oligarch. He is subject to Western sanctions for his role in supporting the Russian invasion of Ukraine through his Wagner group.
And the FBI put Prigozhin on the Most Wanted list for meddling in the US election.
In recent times, Prigozhin has been seen recruiting Russian criminals to take part in the war in Ukraine with the promise that they would be amnestied for doing so. He has also become increasingly critical of the Russian military for the way they wage war.
Yesterday Prigozhin appeared in St. Petersburg at the funeral of a fighter “Wagner”, and this attracted the attention of the media. He had previously avoided being photographed. The fighter buried yesterday was a convicted felon. However, he was granted the right to be buried in the cemetery’s military grounds after authorities initially objected. At the funeral, Prigozhin described the man as a true patriot and emphasized that everyone was equal at the front.
Wagner is said to have been active in eastern Ukraine since 2014 and has since been involved in conflicts in Syria, Libya, the Central African Republic and Mali. She has also been accused of participating in war crimes. The group recently led the Russian assault on the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut.
