The head of the German automobile concern Volkswagen, Herbert Diess, hopes that the worst part of the crisis over chips is over.

However, he still expects that the lack of chips will have a negative effect on the Group’s production next year as well. Diess said this today in Berlin at an economic congress organized by the Süddeutsche Zeitung.
“I hope we have the worst behind us,” said the head of the carmaker, which also includes Škoda Auto in Mladá Boleslav. “Next year we will certainly not be able to produce all the cars we would like to produce,” he added.

Chips are becoming an increasingly important part of cars. Their global shortage is now limiting production in the automotive industry worldwide, including the Czech Republic.
The Volkswagen Group announced last week that it delivered about 600,900 cars to customers in October. That’s about a third less than a year ago. This year, Škoda Auto also had to reduce production due to a lack of chips.
